Keeping Your Workers Safe

Risks can appear in almost any job, but construction workers, parking attendants and emergency service workers face considerable risks in their jobs every day. Health and safety regulations are intended to minimise these risks and help workers stay as safe as possible. While these regulations go some way towards making places of work risk-free, there are some steps that employees can take to make their workers even safer.

•             Ensure all workers wear high visibility clothing

High visibility clothing should be worn in situations where lighting is low and at all times on a construction site. Constructions workers, or people working with heavy machinery, should also wear safety footwear.

•             Hi vis clothing should meet safety regulation standards

The hi vis clothing and industrial footwear that employees wear should meet safety regulation standards as a minimum. Clothing should also be clean and in good condition. Any damaged hi vis clothing should be replaced immediately.

•             Workers should be trained in health and safety

Workers should be briefed on the health and safety measures that are in place at their workplace and why they are there. They should also be fully trained in site rules, and retrained if any changes are made.

•             All relevant health and safety rules should be followed

Any relevant health and safety rules should be followed at all times and taken seriously. For example, safety clothing should be worn at all times without exception. Disciplinary action should be taken against workers who fail to adhere to health and safety rules.
